Hay Fever

Hay fever or allergic rhinitis in medical terms, what is it, what causes it and why do you get it?

Hay fever is the result of inflammation of mucous membranes caused by the release of histamine after contact with an allergen that you have a particular sensitivity to.  Allergens range from flower and grass pollens in the spring and summer, hatching dust mites in the spring or airborne allergens such as pet hair which can occur any time of the year.

Symptoms can range from a mild irritation to major debilitating distress and discomfort.  From sneezing and a runny nose to sinus congestion, sore throat and ears, headaches and loss of sleep.  The potential range of symptoms varies from person to person, and season to season.

If you suffer from hay fever and no one else in your family does it is because you have developed sensitivity to a certain allergen.  Knowing which allergen you are sensitive to is helpful, but not essential, in finding a remedy to help with your symptoms.

There are many homeopathic remedies that can help with the symptoms of hay fever and make life more comfortable.  Make an appointment today to discuss your hay fever.
